 IBSC Applicant Evaluation Instructions

The IBSC would like to thank you for committing to review applicants for our Postdoctoral and Predoctoral Training Programs. Each application consists of the following information/documents:

  1. Application Form
  2. Sponsoring Mentor Form
  3. Research Plan (2pgs maximum)
  4. Letters of Recommendation (3 letters maximum)

Applicant materials will be provided to you in the form of a Google Drive link. This link will provide access to a folder of Applicant Materials, organized by Applicant to ensure materials are not misidentified. Each Applicant has their own folder, with application materials in that folder.

After reviewing each Applicant, please complete the relevant form:

One form is used to score all applicants and allows for the scoring of up to seven (7) applicants assigned to you. Be sure to select the correct Number of Applications Evaluated so that the appropriate fields are displayed. Please also be sure to be logged in using your IBSC login to ensure you can save form data to ensure no loss of data.

In the event the Applicant has applied to more than one program, you can indicate such under Program(s) Applied and score the applicant for all programs applied simultaneously. Additional program specific fields will be displayed based on your selections.

Specifically for Applicants’ who apply to more than one program, based on your scores; Applicant preference; and programmatic fit; IBSC Executive Leadership will designate top candidates to each Training Program that best matches their desired training. Reviewers do not have to address the “stem cell-ness” of CIRM applicants, the fit with NICHD’s mission for T32 applicants, or the teaching potential of IRACDA applicants. Instead, the emphasis of the review should center on the overall scientific strength of the application, regardless of the training program(s) the applicant applied to.

Applicants’ scores will be weighted on the following basis:

  • Research Experience: 40%
  • Mentoring and Outreach: 10%
  • Training Environment: 10%
  • Research Proposal: 40%

Please complete your evaluations and submit the relevant Applicant Evaluation Form by October 1st. If you run into any issues, or have any questions, please contact IBSC@UCSC.EDU
