Description

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS) in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice in Biology. This position is associated with a vibrant cross-campus community dedicated to promoting life sciences education through a systems-based approach to the study of life featuring a shared core sequence, interactive instruction, education research, and experiential learning. This is a teaching-focused, promotable, non-tenure track position with a multi-year renewable contract.

The successful candidate will provide critical instruction and leadership for the LIFE introductory course sequence taken by life sciences majors across the university. They will teach high-enrollment introductory biology courses, coordinate one introductory biology lab course, and teach an additional biology course within their disciplinary area. They can have instructional expertise in any biology subdiscipline (e.g., molecular biology, cellular biology, developmental biology, genetics, microbiology, anatomy, physiology, ecology, or evolution). The Department of Biology at Hofstra University invites applications for anticipated openings for two full-time, tenure-track, assistant professor positions in Genetics for Fall 2024. Cal State Fullerton – Tenure Track – Assistant Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology

Position:

The Department of Biological Science in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at California State University, Fullerton is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor who will lead a research program in the area of cell and molecular biology and who has a commitment to inclusive educational excellence.

We seek a candidate with a strong research record in cell and molecular biology and commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program that leads to peer-reviewed publications and external funding. Research may be related to any area of cell and molecular biology and will involve undergraduate and Master’s students. Teaching responsibilities will include lecture and laboratory-supervision of introductory cell biology. Teaching opportunities may also include other majors’ courses including upper-division and graduate-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. New faculty receive start-up funds, research lab space, and reduced instructional workload over their first two years to establish a research program. The Department of Biology is home to over 1800 undergraduates, 200 master’s students, and 40 tenure/tenure-track faculty. The department is proud of its reputation in actively engaging students from diverse backgrounds in scientific discovery. The SEPAL resource center supports teaching activities, the Health & Equity Research laboratory supports community-engaged, transdisciplinary research within and outside of the department. Multiple core facilities, including the Cell & Molecular Imaging Center (CMIC), the Genomics/Transcriptomics Analysis Core (GTAC), the Mass Spectrometry Facility, and the Electron Microscopy Facility are available to support research. The Sierra Nevada Field Station (located in the Northern Sierra Nevada foothills) is dedicated to education and research involving biological diversity, the Estuary and Ocean Science Center (located along the bay in Tiburon, CA) enhances public engagement with marine science and focus on environmental problems facing coastal communities. The position is focused on supporting the recruitment, training, and retention of underrepresented students into biomedical professions. Candidates may demonstrate this through research and teaching activities from a broad variety of disciplinary specializations as specified below.

The position includes a full-time faculty workload per the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the California State University and the California Faculty Association. The workload primarily includes teaching or other agreed upon primary assignment; conducting an active ongoing program of scholarship or creative works that advances knowledge in the field of one’s specialty; and service contributions to the department, college and the university.

The teaching assignments will be in high-impact courses for undergraduate and/or graduate students entering into biomedical professions, including courses in the core biology curriculum (ex. Introductory Biology, Evolution, Genetics, Biometry), majors’ courses in Integrative Biology (ex. The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Wisconsin invites applications for a full-time faculty position in the Educator Pathway at the level of Assistant Professor. This position is designed for early career scientist-teachers who are interested in an academic pathway involving curriculum development and teaching. The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology is dedicated to the highest quality education of medical and graduate students. Accordingly, this is a promotion-track and competitively compensated position that will strategically position the department for emerging educational needs. Faculty in the Educator Path are expected to place emphasis on teaching excellence and educational leadership. Research or other evidence of scholarly activities is required and includes activities related to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SOTL), although the measures for assessment of appointments are primarily focused on accomplishment and potential in teaching and educational leadership.

The Medical College of Wisconsin is poised to launch a new integrated curriculum in 2023. Additionally, the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology has committed to strategically enhancing its contribution to graduate education at MCW. This faculty member will play a critical role in supporting these efforts, in addition to designing new courses/lectures and delivering pharmacology-specific content to medical and graduate students. The faculty member will work with an interdisciplinary team of biomedical scientists and clinicians to develop novel interactive medical educational and curricular materials. These will include but not be limited to the development of didactic and interactive team-based learning activities related to foundational principles of pharmacology, systems-based drug therapeutics and pharmacogenomics. The faculty member will also develop interprofessional collaborations to advance understanding of pharmacology and the effect of drugs in a variety of patient populations for students in different healthcare professional programs. Additionally, the faculty member will work collaboratively to support graduate student and post-doc education and training efforts through didactic instruction and program/curriculum development.

The faculty member will have the opportunity for membership in MCW’s Robert D. and Patricia E. Kern Institute for the Transformation of Medical Education, through which they will work within a vibrant, highly collaborative, and interdisciplinary culture of teaching scholars dedicated to supporting medical education at MCW.

While the start date for the position is flexible, the preferred start date is April 1st, 2023. Successful applicants will have an M.D./D.O. or a Ph.D. in a biomedical discipline, preferably pharmacology and experience teaching pharmacology or related content in a higher education setting.

The Department of Biology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 21st, 2023. We seek an immunologist who is committed to excellence in undergraduate instruction, embraces the department and university commitments to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and will engage undergraduates in immunology-focused research. We invite applicants with a research focus in any area of immunology using a relevant study system. The salary range for this position is $60,000-$66,000.

DUTIES: The successful candidate will teach both introductory and upper-level biology courses for majors (such as Foundations of Biology I and Cell & Molecular Biology) as well as offer upper-level coursework related to their expertise (such as Immunology). The candidate will also have opportunities to develop additional courses that enhance our curriculum. The teaching commitment is approximately 12 contact hours per week. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduate students, provide academic advising to students (in collaboration with Advising, Retention, and Career Center) and engage in service to the Department, College, University, profession and/or community. Opportunities also exist for contribution to collaborative and growing interdisciplinary high impact experiences among STEM departments as well as collaboration with Mayo Clinic Health System partners.

About the Position: The Department of Biology is seeking a highly qualified Assistant / Associate Professor of Genetics. The new specialized faculty member will join the program in August of 2023. This is a nine (9) month tenure-track position.

Duties and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will have teaching experience and research/postdoctoral background in genetics. They will be expected to teach introductory genetics lectures, and laboratories and develop upper division and/or graduate courses tailored to the candidate’s specific area of expertise. The standard teaching load is 12 semester hours per semester. In addition, providing student advisement; participating in scholarly research; serving on departmental, school, and university committees is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for Entry: Teaching experience is required. Both a commitment to undergraduate teaching and developing a research program involving undergraduate and M.S. graduate students in research is required. The successful applicant will have the potential to or demonstrated ability to establish an externally funded research program in their area of expertise that will include undergraduate and M.S. graduate students.
