What is Industry Day at UCSC?

Defined Mutually Beneficial Purpose

Industry Day is tailored to support the career development of students and Postdocs across UCSC’s bioscience graduate programs, focusing on biotech and biomedical industry interests while facilitating research advancement and collaborations between labs and industry partners

A Novel Approach For Engagement

Unlike traditional events connecting Academia and Industry, UCSC’s Industry Day is designed to foster meaningful, long-term connections between academia and industry; steering away from one-off interactions and promotions. Through scientific understanding of active research at UCSC, academics and companies can engage in unique, mutually beneficial ways.

Benefits of Attending For All

Participating organizations get to engage with Graduate Students and Postdocs, while exploring collaborative research opportunities with UCSC Faculty, Postdocs, and Graduate Students. Organizations gain exposure to UCSC’s talent pool for recruitment opportunities while attendees gain insights on their CV/Resume for future career development. Participating organizations have the opportunity to share insights into the transition to industry and provide career development insight through brief Panel Sessions, followed by Q&A for attendees to join and discover potential careers; advice; and resources to help them reach their goals.

Post-event Engagement With Integrity

All participating organizations will receive detailed qualified contact information for all UCSC attendees. This information includes research focus and aim(s); desired topics of engagement; alternative contact methods; and more; eliminating the guesswork of identifying qualified academic contacts for long-term, organic relationship development. Through clear lines of engagement Industry Day aims to develop communication bridges for years to come.

Join Us For a Paradigm Shift in Academic Events

Occurring outside of the Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences Buildings with Panel Sessions and Fireside Chats occurring in the Physical Sciences Building (PSB240), Industry Day ensures interaction, relationship development, and collaboration with Faculty, Postdocs, and Students from more than six different departments (Biomolecular Engineering; Chemistry and Biochemistry; Microbiology and Environmental Toxicology; Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology; Electrical and Computer Engineering; the Genomics Institute, and more).

Help disrupt the age-old ‘swag’ and discount driven vendor shows of the pre-pandemic era and join us in fostering novel, mutually beneficial relationships between academia and industry!
